If you d told me ten years ago that I would one day spend an hour and a half beneath the vaulted ceilings of a London pub, eating quinoa salad with the man who writes the Wetherspoons News magazine, I may have questioned your soothsaying. And yet, here we are, just a few weeks after MUNCHIES received a rather mysterious email from the JD Wetherspoon PR team, which made the pub chain s new range of hot dogs, burgers, and salads sound more like a comprehensive dossier of state secrets than a spring menu launch. Only Snowden didn t get to spend a lunchtime chewing through seven plates of various delicious forms of beige across the table from Eddie, a man who started working with Wetherspoons 27 years ago. A man who refers to the chain s new smashed avocado bagel offering as a "beigel," because he s a true Eastender. A man who spends his life pulling together stories from across the country for a pub magazine read by two million customers. A man who describes the Brexiteer chairman of Wetherspoons, Tim Martin, as "just a really nice bloke.

The world has changed a lot since the first JD Wetherspoon pub opened in , but Spoons have largely stayed the same. They are a bastion of reliability. No matter where in the country, a Spoons is never too far away, ready with the welcome of beautifully cheap drinks , no-frills food and a very good carpet. In London, and Zone 1 especially, where drinks can be monstrously expensive, a Spoons is something of a godsend. Naturally, in the name of respectable journalism, we ve had to go to every single one. Here is the definitive ranking of Wetherspoons in central London. First, the good: Now, the bad: The ceilings are claustrophobically low, the floor has a distinct lack of carpet, and it gets so impenetrably packed that a table with seats too often remains but a distant dream.

Loved for being the cheapest pub in Britain has been exposed for doubling the price of its large breakfast, ultimate burger and Caesar salad at Stansted and Gatwick airports compared to what it charges on high streets. The pubs are considered a staple at airports, with many seeing their pre-flight meal as the start of the holiday. Burgers have become one of the most popular food items of recent times, but those in the airport may prefer to skip it. There is also a difference in mark ups between Wetherspoon high street pubs, mainly as a result in the difference between rent and rates.

Email address: Popular pub chain JD Wetherspoon is now serving its Christmas menu , which includes everything from a prosecco prawn cocktail to a pizza topped with pigs in blankets. Available until 24 December, the new festive menu offers classic Christmas dishes alongside some more unusual options. Other starters include pigs in blankets with cranberry sauce, or a festive soup of the day. The festive menu features a full turkey dinner, which includes a turkey breast slice filled with sage and onion stuffing, served with roasted chantenay carrots and parsnips, maris piper mash, pigs in blankets, peas, cranberry sauce and gravy. There is also a creamy mushroom risotto suitable for vegetarians. And, not forgetting the kids, the menu also includes a pigs in blanket and mash meal just for little ones. McDonalds also recently unveiled its own Christmas menu.

J D Wetherspoon plc branded as Wetherspoon , commonly known as spoons is a pub company in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Founded in by Tim Martin , the company operates nearly pubs, [2] including the chain of Lloyds No. With its headquarters in Watford , Wetherspoon is known for converting unconventional yet attractive premises into pubs. So I thought: I can t control the pub, he couldn t control the class, so I ll name it after him. During the s, Wetherspoon began a policy of routinely closing its smaller or less profitable outlets, often replacing them with larger premises close by. In , Wetherspoon introduced the oversized pint glass to promote the "full pint". On 16 April , Wetherspoon announced that it was deleting all of its social media profiles. In announcing the decision, chairman Tim Martin cited the "current bad publicity surrounding social media, including the trolling of MPs and others" as a reason for the decision. Wetherspoon claims to be "the only large pub firm which opens all its pubs early in the morning", serving breakfast and coffee.

I don t think there is a way to find the prices as they vary from pub to pub or area to area. What area are you looking at? Because of the cheap beer some Wetherspoons can be a bit rough and the haunt of one or two alkies. Just a word of warning, service at the bar can be either very quick or extremely slow. I ve lost count of the number of times I ve waited 10 minutes to get served at the Richard John Blackler and then walked out! There are several "Spoons" in the towns surrounding Devizes and one here in town. They are very much "bang for your buck" as far as food is concerned and I don t think anyone would confuse Spoons food with haute cuisine. I ve been in most of those around here, most have little or no atmosphere and tend to be frequented by blokes who have pinched a tenner from the missus purse and know they ll get an extra pint in a Spoons for their money than anywhere else. I m sure there are good and bad Spoons as with anything, but they re all horrible around here. The more downmarket the pub then the cheaper the food and drink in general. Curry Club and Steak night are good value. Most pubs offer a free drink with anything ordered from the grill menu - so the drink price is irrelevant for steak and a drink for example. Seriously though, do you want to eat in Wetherspoons at all locations?
